If you were planning on sitting in front of the tube this Friday—popcorn in hand—to watch the season four premiere of ABC’s Ugly Betty—you might want to make other plans. The Hollywood Reporter says ABC “has decided to push the premiere of the dramedy from Oct. 9 to Oct. 16,” in order to air same-week reruns of some of their new shows in its place. Instead, the two-hour premiere of Betty is now scheduled to air at 8 p.m. on Friday Oct. 16—before moving to its official new 9 p.m. timeslot on Friday Oct. 23. Confused? Yeah, so am I.
But ABC's decision to postpone the premiere of Betty doesn’t surprise me one bit. For months, the network has been making it abundantly clear that the show is no longer a priority for them. In March, for instance, ABC benched Betty in order to test their new comedies, Samantha Who? and In the Motherhood, in Betty’s original Thursday night time slot (a sign that the network was not very pleased with Betty’s ratings). Then in May, ABC shocked Betty fans once again when the network announced that the show would be leaving Thursday nights and moving to, er, the Friday night death slot to make room for the highly anticipated series Flash Forward.
While the bad news for America Ferrera’s comedy keeps on coming, the opposite is true for Selena Gomez’s series, The Wizards of Waverly Place. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney “has extended the third season of hit show Wizards with a pickup of eight additional episodes,” bringing the total number of episodes to 86! The show recently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program, an ALMA Award for Selena, and in August, the Wizards movie became cable TV’s No. #2 scripted telecast of all time with 13.5 million viewers! It’s good to know at least one Latina is on a hit show.
What say you Vivo Por TVians? Are you ticked off at ABC for postponing Betty? Are you digging Wizards? Dish in the comments section!
