40 and Fabulous!

Don’t get me wrong, young Latinas rule! I think Selena Gomez is a cutie, Joanna Garcia is my #1 celebrity homegirl—and because I am a die-hard fan of the infinitely clever WB classic Gilmore GirlsAlexis Bledel will forever have a piece of my heart!

That said, the old adage is true: with age, comes wisdom (and true beauty, I might add). Don’t believe me? Check out my list of the five most fabulous 40-something TV stars and decide for yourself.

Marilyn Milian, 48: As the Judge of television’s longest running courtroom show, The People’s Court (FOX), Marilyn Milian can be hard on people. But try to judge her, and I promise you’ll be out of luck. The Cuban beauty has legs for days, a smile that lights up a room, a vocabulary that would make Dennis Leary jealous, and she’s extremely smart and hardworking. After graduating cum laude with a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, Milian got a job as an assistant state attorney for the Dade County State Attorney’s Office. She then made history as the first female judge to preside over the People's Court, and she became the first Hispanic judge to sit on the bench of any English- language television court show! She's also a devoted wife and mother, and speaks out against domestic violence in the Latino community. My verdict? They don't come better than this.

Daphne Zuniga, 46: Zuniga is as youthful and beautiful looking as she was over a decade ago when she appeared as photographer Jo Reynolds on Aaron Spelling’s primetime hit soap Melrose Place. The enchanting Guatemalan actress, whose got a sexy look about her (think Kim Cattrall meets Lisa Rinna) is the perfect combination of style and substance, and a truly fearless actress. Perhaps that's why after 20+ years in the business, the fabulous Zuniga is still landing great acting gigs. In addition to playing Sofia Bush’s very evil mother on One Tree Hill, Zuniga will be moving back into the address that made her famous with a role in the CW’s 2009 Melrose spinoff debuting on Sept. 8.

Constance Marie, 40: I imagine it can’t be easy being married to funnyman George Lopez, (who has a hard time being serious even for a second), but Constance Marie managed to pull it off for an impressive 120 episodes between 2002-2007, playing the role of George’s on-screen wife Angie Lopez on The George Lopez Show. In 2007, the hardworking star even launched her own clothing line, The Constance Marie Collection, for women with big booties! Talk about kicking big arse.

Gina Torres, 40: In spite of her age, Torres still loves to gossip! Well, not exactly. But she will be joining the most chisme-friendly show on television, the CW’s hit series, Gossip Girl, when the show returns for its 3rd season on September 14. Torres will play Vanessa’s (Jessica Szohr) unconventional hippie mom. Torres is a mom off-screen too: The beautiful Cuban actress has a daughter named Delilah with her actor-husband Laurence Fishburne, whom she married in 2002. Known mostly for her roles in sci-fi and fantasy fare like Firefly and Angel, Torres’s performances are always gritty and very realistic.

Lauren Velez, 44: One of my favorite women over 40 is Puerto Rican character actress Lauren Velez, who plays Lt. Maria Laguerta on Showtime’s serial killer drama Dexter  (which kicks off its 4th season on September 27). Velez’s Laguerta is a woman who will screw over anyone and everyone in order to get ahead. She’s domineering, petty, stubborn, and at times completely callous and insensitive. But we still like her, mostly because Lauren adds an element of humanity and vulnerability to the character. In real-life, Lauren is almost nothing like Laguerta. She's bubbly and extremely sweet. So when you see Laguerta being vulnerable, or displaying a soft side that makes you want to root for her, that's when you're seeing the real Lauren!
