New Music: Fat Joe Channels Jimi Hendrix—and It Works

You've got to hand it to Fat Joe. In a world where most slightly above-average rappers enjoy 10 minutes of fame, max, the boricua cubano MC proves that he can still maintain his street cred while making radio-friendly bangers and has developed into a star in his own right (not just the guy who introduced us to one of the G.O.A.T., Big Pun).

Sure, Joey's made a few missteps here and there (I'll never stop hating on that joint he did with J. Holiday last year—never!), but for the most part, he's stayed consistently above the fold. This new album he's working on—J.O.S.E. 2, slated for release May 19—may even be his best post-breakthrough work to date.

On the album's newly leaked street single, "Hey Joe," Fat Joe makes sure we're all still paying attention to him by sampling one of the greatest songs ever recorded: Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe." You can't go wrong with that...can you? Take a list to the new track below, and let me know what you think.
