Mariah Covers Foreigner, Not a Good Idea

I want to know what possessed Mariah Carey to cover Foreigner’s 1984 hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” on her upcoming album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Perhaps she should’ve taken “a little time to think things over,” as the song says. Okay, I’ve already established that I grew up in the '80s and, yes, I get a little nostalgic when it comes to that era. But seriously, Mimi, that ballad was, like, so totally rad just the way it was. It’s a classic song and the remake is just blah.
Carey’s voice is, well, good, as expected, yet all the whispering at the beginning followed by high-pitched singing is cringe-worthy, and the chorus with the gospel choir seems misplaced. Perez didn’t like it either, and he’s a big fan. Listen to Mariah’s version here and, since it is Friday and I want to end the week on a positive note, here's a video for the original. Decide for yourself and let me know what you think.
