The beauty of SXSW is that you can walk into a show not knowing a
single thing about an artist and walk out a fan—maybe even with some
new music to add to your playlist. That's pretty much how I feel about Garotas Suecas,
a funky rock band from Brazil that caught my attention with their
set at Emo's Jr. They're not overly Euro (read: electro) like Bonde do
Role
or CSS, but they've still got hipster cache thanks to their penchant for cigarette-thin jeans and one comely female bandmate (keyboardist/tambourine woman Irina Bertolucci).

Check out a bit of Garotas' set below. If you weren't in Austin last
weekend but you live in the NYC area, you can catch the band performing
tonight at Mercury Lounge. They'll also be playing in D.C., Ohio,
Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania in the days following (visit myspace.com/garotassuecas for all the details). Don't miss them!
