It’s Been A Stellar Year for Juanes

Retna Ltd.

It’s only a matter of time before Juanes wins an Oscar. I know he’s not an actor nor has he done any film work—unless you count his music videos—but seriously, the Colombian rocker and tireless do-gooder is racking up the honors left and right so it’s not completely impossible. One thing we can all agree on for sure is that he can do no wrong.

Just yesterday it was announced that the 17 Latin Grammy–winner will add a Media and Entertainment Excellence Award by the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) to his mantle this coming February for his social activism and chart-topping recordings. The trophy comes on the heels of several honors:

Colombian broadcasting company RCN declared him the Person of the Year for his commitment to the country’s social issues. Billboard magazine chose him as Artist of the Decade, also for his activism and musical work over the last ten years. And just a few months ago, he was awarded Colombia’s National Peace Prize.

And as his native country prepares to elect a new president (or an old one, if the current prez Álvaro Uribe get his way) in 2010, I’m just going to throw it out there: Juanes for President! Again, not completely impossible. Who’s with me on this?
