I know it's not quite the weekend yet, but I'm in the mood to dance! Maybe it's because I'm still on a high from my '90s-themed birthday party last week (Mariah and Fergie weren't the only ones celebrating)—whatever the reason, I know what my soundtrack will be this weekend: Soy Sauce, the new album by Mexican Institute of Sound that dropped this week. Don't be misled by the official-sounding name. MIoS is but one man: Camilo Lara, a big-time record label executive at EMI Mexico and EMI Latin America who also happens to be an obsessive cratedigger.
If you're on the West Coast, you can catch Mexican Institute of Sound performing in San Francisco on April 17, or at the all-important Coachella Music & Arts Festival on April 19. Or, if you're like me and you can't make it to either of those shows, treat yourself to this gratis download of one of the album's catchiest tracks, "Yo Digo Baila," below. It sounds like Daft Punk went to Mexico City and came back bilingual, tongue-in-cheek and fierce as ever. Bootyshaking is optional, but recommended.
