What do John Travolta, Robin Williams and René “Residente” Pérez of Calle 13 have in common? They all star in the Disney film Old Dogs (out Nov. 25) about a pair of bachelors that are made to care for seven-year-old twins. The Puerto Rican singer plays a tattoo artist who is given the task of branding Williams’s character with a little ink. He scored the job because one of the movie’s producers is a fan of his music. According to the controversial vocalist, the veteran actors made him feel at ease during the filming of the scene in Miami a year ago.
But don’t expect Pérez to switch careers. “I don’t consider myself an actor,” he has said. Instead, he’s lining up musical work in Hollywood. He’s been tapped to create the soundtrack for an HBO series and is in talks with Sean Penn to do the same for one of his films. Aside from that, he’s also writing a couple of screenplays themed around Puerto Rico that he focuses on at night, when others are sleeping.
