Bebe Returns

It’s been five long years since singer/songwriter Bebe first captivated us with her raspy, childlike voice on Pafuera Telarañas, the debut album that earned her a Latin Grammy for best new artist in 2005. And though we didn’t hear a peep from her since then, the Spaniard was busy filling a notebook with songs.

“Me Fui” is the first single from her upcoming record Y, which is due to be released on July 14. The earthy, almost minimalist, song features Spanish electric guitars, vintage sounds, light percussion and Bebe’s unmistakable voice.

She sings, “Me fui pa echarte de menos, me fui pa volver de nuevo, me fui pa estar sola, me fui porque…” (I left to miss you, I left to come back again, I left to be on my own, I left ‘cause…). The lyrics and mood are as personal and inspired as we’ve come to expect from the guitar-toting singer. I can wait for the rest of the album.
