Chile’s 31 Minutos is the kind of children’s television show I would’ve loved as a kid—and as an adult, too. Unlike Sesame Street, its content was built on double entendres and sarcastic humor. On TV from 2003 to 2008, it educated kids while addressing social problems.

Based in the New York borough of Brooklyn, Rana Santacruz has been the dubbed the “Irish Mariachi” for his style of music, a blend of Celtic folk and Mexican swing. His solo debut, Chicavasco (out March 9), is made up of tall tales set to a laundry list of instruments (accordion, violin, cello, sax, jaw harp, guitarrón, vihuela, trumpet, tuba) that bridges his many worlds. You’ve already heard the rumors about Shakira and Rafa’s supposed romance. And now we finally have some evidence of the superstar pair getting down and dirty—albeit for her new video. The colombiana’s video for the song “Gypsy” from her She Wolf album features the singer shaking her stuff like only she can for the sweaty, shirtless tennis player.

The duo behind Sweet Electra is in a New York state of mind lately. Vocalist Nardiz Cooke and producer Giovanni Escalera recently left Guadalajara for the Big Apple with the hopes of bringing their electronica-tinged pop to a wider audience. Their upcoming album When We Abandoned Earth (out April 6), sung in Spanish and English, was inspired by this change in atmosphere.

Leonor Watling first registered with U.S. audiences as Alicia, a beautiful ballet student lying in a coma in Pedro Almodovar’s 2002 film Talk to Her. And while the Spanish actress has done other movies, it seems she’s more of a singer these days. When I heard that she dueted with Uruguayan artist Jorge Drexler in his upcoming album Amar La Trama (out March 16), I went looking for further evidence of her musical skills.

Live from New York it’s . . . Jennifer Lopez! Yes, that’s right, on Feb. 27 Mrs. Marc Anthony will be the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. The Bronx-born Boricua first appeared on SNL in 2001, back when Will Ferrel, Tracy Morgan and Chris Kattan were still in the cast and she was dating Chris Judd. That same year, J.Lo had the number one album and movie in the same week.

It’s been a long time since Christina Aguilera left Pittsburgh for the glitz and the glam of Los Angeles. Yet, she’s probably conjuring up her days in the Steel City to play Ali, a small-town girl who arrives in Hollywood to pursue her dreams, in the musical film Burlesque, currently filming in L.A.

The rumor mill has been swirling with tales of Shakira cozying up to tennis star Rafael Nadal in Barcelona recently. “Love match,” hinted the New York Post’s Page Six just a few days ago, reporting that the pair “were whispering and all smiles” while eating dinner at the W Hotel in the Spanish city.
But Nadal’s camp has denied the supposed romance. And it appears that the Colombiana is still very much engaged to long-time boyfriend Antonio de la Rua, and the Spaniard is still dating his former classmate Xisca.
