Going with the Flow
By Lori Hoffman | 08/18/2009 - 16:00

It’s that odd time of year when summer is still in full swing—we finally got a heat wave in the Northeast!—but I’m already starting to think about my fall wardrobe. Cooler weather might be right around the corner, but those first few weeks of autumn are always a little tricky, because it might be 90 degrees one day and 65 the next. So, I’m thinking of incorporating more transition pieces into my closet.

Amber Waves

I love baubles that look more expensive than they are, which is often the case with jewelry made from semi-precious stones. Take these amber glass earrings ($25) from artisan kristapeel, who sells her goods on etsy.com. They’re bold enough to make a statement, but not over the top—perfect to wear with a simple tee or dressed up for the office. Super cute!

Mad Women

If you’re anything like me, then you’re counting down the minutes until Mad Men returns to the airwaves on Aug. 16. This Neck Tie Blouse ($58) totally reminds me of Joan Holloway with its bold color, exaggerated feminine details and professional appearance. Tuck it into your most flattering high-waisted skirt and throw on your most respectable heels. Like Joan, all eyes should be on you.

A wise fashionista once told me that it’s not a good idea to jump on a revived trend if you lived it the first time around. In other words, if you actually wore ’80s styles (acid wash, anyone?) during the 1980’s, you might want to leave those looks in your past. At the very least, subtly acknowledge the trend. For example, instead of wearing a neon top with matching neon socks (shout out to my 8-year-old self!), simply throw on a neon nail color. Nice and simple.

It's a Wrap!
By Shani Saxon-Parrish | 08/03/2009 - 18:00

It’s safe to say that I never leave home without a scarf. They protect me from aggressive air conditioning in the summer (I seriously feel attacked by the AC sometimes) and keep my neck warm when the temperature drops outside. Aside from all of their practical usefulness, they’re super-cute wrapped around my head and can be counted on to add a touch of color or intrigue to an outfit.

Workin' Hard For Your Money
By Anabell Romero | 07/30/2009 - 16:00

When I first saw this Lapis Girl A097 dress, it was love at first sight. This multipurpose dress/skirt can be worn four different ways and is one size fits all. It comes in a bunch of colors like lavender, blue, green and—my personal favorite—black. But that's not the best part. Although it's pretty much sold out everywhere online, the dress can be found at Marshalls right now for only $20! Visit marshallsonline.com, search for the store nearest you and snap one up before they're all gone.

This sunshine yellow dress makes me want to pack a lunch and head outside for a summer picnic. It also happens to be the same color as my all-time favorite sunflowers! It would be impossible to walk down the street in this little silk frock and not put a smile on someone's face.
