I realized that I’ve spoken so often about my husband, and I haven’t even properly introduced you two.
Gibby, Latina readers.
Latina readers, this is my husband Gibby Cevallos.
Gibby and I met 5 years ago when he was filming a movie in San Antonio, Texas and I was hosting a morning show. I interviewed him on my show and he made me an extra in his movie, and gave me two lines. I’m convinced he gave me those lines as a ploy to go on a date with him. It worked, and soon after we fell in love and got married.
I’ve often been asked how I knew he was ‘the one’ and there are so many reasons. For instance, he’s hysterical -- he cracks me up on a daily basis! Gibby is fiercely loyal; his family comes first and he considers his sisters and brothers his very best friends. He’s creative, a brilliant writer, and a dreamer. He’s nurturing, charming, and one heck of a dancer! Don’t get me wrong — he drives me bananas, too (“you still haven’t cleaned out the garage?”) but I love him more than anything. (But really, Gibby, clean out the garage!
Above all, though, the reason I knew he was ‘the one’ was because I knew he was going to be a great dad one day.
I didn’t have my dad in my life. He was plagued by his own troubles and I lost touch with him over a decade ago. Reconciliation is out of the question because he passed away at the beginning of the year. My dad didn’t teach me about life, he didn’t watch me graduate from college and he didn’t walk me down the aisle. There is a void in my heart that will never go away. I didn’t want my future children to know that void so I wanted to make sure that I would find them the best daddy I could. Mission accomplished.
Baby Bean is in for a treat when he meets his papa! He’ll be meeting the guy who makes sure his momma has breakfast in bed almost every morning. The guy who insists he listen to Pearl Jam before entering the world. The guy who has insisted on taking the night shift feedings. The guy who will take him to baseball games, will teach him his dynamite dance moves, as well as kindness and compassion. Baby Bean is one lucky kid.
So that’s Gibby. I’m so glad y’all finally got to meet. Stay tuned — you’ll hear much more about him in the blogs to come because he’s my teammate. Without him, there’d be no Modern Mami blog to speak of. And, I’ve got silliness he’d rather me not share but he’s also a sucker for a great story and some of stuff he’s done is much too funny to keep to ourselves!
