One of my favorite celeb mamis, Ali Landry, recently made a comment about her plans to vacation this summer. She and her hubby will be traveling and leaving their almost-2-year-old daughter with her abuelita. The statement was vague, but commenters to the article seemed really concerned about the possibility that they might be leaving her daughter for the entire summer.

Like I've mentioned before, we are raising our girls to be bilingual. I speak Spanish all day long and even have a dictionary handy for those words that elude me. I adore the Spanish language, it's sexy and passionate and conveys so much more than plain old English. At least to me it does.

Welcoming a newborn while having a toddler is a world different from welcoming your first baby. When Dessa was first born, the world revolved around her. We'd sit on the couch and just stare at her for hours. We'd rush to get our noses in her little mouth as she yawned to enjoy her baby's breath. I remember the first time I was home alone with her, I held my pee forever until I figured out that it wouldn't be the end of the world if I actually put her down for a second!

Enough with the sappy posts, right? Time for a little giveaway!
When Dessa was 6 months old, I signed us up for an Itsy Bitsy Yoga class at our local Bella maternity store. The class was taught by Lisa Hanson, a former teacher turned Itsy Bitsy Yoga instructor. I got to know Lisa pretty well and eventually found out that she was also an author.

When I left for the hospital to give birth, Dessa was my baby. This tiny peanut of a thing that was still so fragile, a 22-month-old who fit into 12-18 month sized clothing. But after 48 hours in the hospital, I came home to find Dessa looking like a giant to me! No one told me that while I was busy having a baby, my toddler would somehow gain a hundred pounds and almost look like a grown up.

When you're pregnant with your first child and you go to register, it's insanely overwhelming. The stores have these giant lists of things you "must" have and then friends and family all have their favorite baby items from their own experiences which they think you "must" have, too. It's easy to get confused and just register for a ton of stuff that will never get used. It's what happened to us. The gifts we appreciated most were just simple gestures that made our first few days after Dessa's arrival a little bit easier.

So, I did it! I had a VBAC, or a vaginal birth after cesarean. It's an amazing experience. Did it hurt? Yes. Was it the end of the world? No. After I had Dessa via c-section, I knew I wanted to attempt to have a VBAC with future children. I thought I had been well prepared the first time around but I was shocked by how the use of an epidural for pain management and pitocin to "help" things along really made things worse. Because of the meds I chose to take, I couldn't feel a thing down below.

Sorry it's been so quiet around here lately but I've been a little busy...you know having a baby! We welcomed our second daughter into the world on Wednesday, May 13th at 3:44pm. She weighed in at 6lbs 13oz and measured 19 inches. We decided to name her Farrah. This was the secret name we'd been hiding away for months hoping it fit and now that she's here, we're glad to report it's perfect!

I realize that all families have quirky things they do that they don't think are quirky at all. Maybe it's a funny way of saying hello or a goofy birthday tradition or a weird morning ritual or whatever—we each have something. For instance, in my house we always announce when we're going to the bathroom. I didn't think it was weird until other people alerted me to it.
