The Learning Channel, famous for shows like Jon & Kate Plus 8 and the popular Wedding Story, recently started airing a new series called Toddlers & Tiaras. It takes an in depth look at young girls participating in pageants. Do I think it's disturbing? Definitely. Do I think it's crazy? Not entirely. Being Latina, I always felt like my parents were grooming me for my close up. Sloppy was unacceptable. Earrings were always on. Hair always blow-dryed. I also took dance classes from a young age and it was normal to get dolled up and slather on make-up. So the whole concept of dressing up little girls isn't entirely crazy to me.
I will never enter Dessa into a beauty pageant unless she begs me and even then I'd be hard pressed to agree to it. Pageantry may not be in Dessa's future but sometimes the idea of seeing her adorable face on the cover of a magazine does cross my mind. There is no lack of photo contests out there for cute babies so here's a quick sampling with a variety of prizes. Check out each website for more details about how to enter and what you might be able to win.
