Some experts say we're supposed to drink 74 ounces of water every single day. I know that sounds like a lot, and while I can't promise that I always consume the full amount, I can assure you that I do try.

My trick is to buy several bottles of water and put them on my desk and in my bag as a constant reminder that I need to drink up. I also constantly remind myself of the benefits. Without water, our own waste would poison us to death. It aids in digestion and boosts our metabolism. Water carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells through our blood and helps to cool the body through perspiration. If enough water is not consumed, it is scientifically proven that we can gain excess body fat, have poor muscle tone, and endure digestive complications and muscle soreness. Feeling thirsty yet? Feel free to add lemon to your glass for a little flavor.

Here’s a simple way to find out how much water you’re supposed to be drinking:

1) Write down how much you weigh in pounds, divide that by half
2) Add 16 for dryness of climate
3) Add another 16 if strenuous exercise is completed

The final number equals how many ounces you are supposed to drink each day!

If you really want to be picky, divide the ounces by the hours you are awake to find out your hourly water requirement. It can’t get any easier than that!

How do you make sure you're drinking enough water?
