Emotional Eating

Do you find yourself eating a bucket of Cookies and Cream Edy’s Ice Cream out of boredom? Or maybe you eat potato chips and chocolate because you feel lonely or stressed? If the answer is yes, then you, like me, are an emotional eater. At least I can FINALLY admit it. I eat when I’m bored, depressed, angry, and stressed from work. Many people are overweight because of this. I've learned to write down every thing I eat and why I ate it as a way to combat this particular problem. That way, I can recognize what sets me off so that I can change my reactions. Just try it for a week and see how it goes for you.
Once you've recognized your food trigggers, once you feel yourself slipping into an emotional eating session you can stop yourself. Try moving around so you not only feel better, but you avoid eating the wrong things! If you don’t want to be active, try reading a book or anything that keeps your mind on other things. I know that sometimes the urge to eat is just too strong. When that happens, I try to opt for healthier choices. Instead of ice cream, I'll go for the Jello with Low-Fat or Non-Fat Whip Cream. And instead of potato chips, I'll eat celery sticks or an apple. You get the idea.
What do you do to combat the urge to eat when you're not actually hungry?
