Create a Welcoming Guest Bedroom

The holidays are definitely the time of the year when we see an influx of out-of-town family and friends visiting our home. Of course, you want your guest bedroom to be an inviting and comfortable place for them to stay, so here are a few tips that will help you achieve that.

Like any bedroom, the bed should always be the focal point and an easy way to freshen up the space is by buying new bedding. Save money by buying a comforter set (a.k.a. bed-in-a-bag) that brings all the accessories made to finish off the look. Items such as shams, bed skirts, decorative pillows and throws help make the bed more welcoming.

Don’t worry about filling up the room with too much furniture, either. You can use an ottoman or stacked trunks as nightstands; and even a console table with a mirror on the wall above it can function as a dresser. Another great idea is to incorporate a bench at the foot of the bed for your guests to place their luggage. It’s about giving them all the simple conveniences they expect to find in a hotel.

An important note is to keep the decorating style pretty gender-neutral, so that it appeals to all who might sleep there. You can’t imagine your grandfather or uncle wanting to sleep in a pink boudoir, right? Finally, to make your guests feel even more special, I like to include a basket with rolled-up towels, soaps, candles, books and magazines for their enjoyment and relaxation.

It’s all about the details. You can take it further by including a robe and slippers, too. Just be careful—your guests may never want to leave after receiving such 5-star treatment!
