Seven Pounds: Worth the Weight

I don’t blame you for not having rushed to the theaters back in December to watch Seven Pounds; it had a lot of competition at the time (p.s. is Slumdog ever going to go away?). But don’t sleep on catching the Gabrielle Muccino (who also directed The Pursuit of Happyness)-directed flick on DVD starting tomorrow.
I watched it this past weekend and I was really impressed with Will Smith and Rosario Dawson (and their chemistry). Part of what makes the movie so interesting is that you know virtually nothing about the plot going into it (Sony Pictures’ marketing strategy was basically to keep you guessing, so I will do the same). Suffice it to say that Will Smith’s character is trying to atone for something he did in the past by helping out seven strangers in a major, life-altering way. But first he must make sure that they truly deserve to be helped. Woody Harrelson also stars in the movie, though not for any substantial amount of screen time. Regardless, his was one of my favorite characters. I had to pull out the entire box of tissues for this one. But it was worth every tear, trust me.
