Beyoncé may not love me for this, but I’m going to go ahead and say it: if you’re looking for some comedy this weekend, check out Obsessed on DVD. I hope to God you didn’t spend the money to see it in theaters, unless of course you’re a die-hard Idris Elba fan—actually, scratch that, especially if you're a die-hard Idris Elba fan. Let’s face it, the man is delicious but is not given a role he could even remotely sink his teeth into here.
Regardless, I might’ve become a bit stalkerish too if I were his temp, like Ali Larter in the flick. Beyoncé looks gorgeous in every shot, naturally, and there’s plenty of over-the-top ridiculousness, from a scene in which Ali Larter basically rapes Idris to the crazy cat-fights. Personally I was rooting for Ali’s character, who’s absolutely bonkers.
Oh, and if you’re wondering why I’m covering a Beyoncé DVD, well, she’s always been an honorary Latina of sorts. She even told me she was a little “jealous she wasn't born Latina” herself a couple of years ago, a statement which—however well intentioned—pissed a lot of people off. But I know what she meant to say: She just has a great deal of respect and admiration for us wise Latinas. And we, in turn, love her back. Bad movies and all.
