NEW N.A.S.A.

I always loved the concept of N.A.S.A., which stands for North America South America, because it´s all about unity—two friends, Squeak E. Clean, a DJ/producer as well as Spike Jonze´s brother, and Brazilian producer DJ Zegon, decided to get together in L.A. and make music with all sorts of worldly influences and invite their quirky musician friends to join the party. Their debut album from Anti Records, The Spirit of Apollo, drops today, and it features everybody from M.I.A. to Seu Jorge. Even Kanye West, who is featured on the track “Gifted,” along with Santogold and Lykke Li, wrote about it in his blog, saying:

“The N.A.S.A. album project is one huge collaborative effort featuring a whole load of my favorite musicians. Karen O on a track with Ol’ Dirty Bastard & Fatlip; David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge & Z-Trip on another.”

But the coolest thing about the cross-collaborative album is that it’s got five interchangeable album covers designed by some truly gifted artists from different backgrounds and cultures. Among them are Shepard Fairey, a Los Angeles-based graphic designer who recently gained international prominence through his iconic imagery of Barack Obama (which then graced the cover of TIME), and pioneering skateboarder, designer and artist Mark Gonzales, whose cover has an aquatic theme to it.

N.A.S.A. will also be performing at Coachella this year, fyi.
