That’s a bit of a stretch, in truth. But I immediately thought of Miz Braga when I heard of this cool new show on HBO Latino premiering tomorrow called Alice, which takes place in Sao Paolo, a monster of a city I’ve been dying to visit but am also kind of a little intimidated by (based on sheer size alone). But I’ve also heard it’s got some of the best restaurants and hands-down the best service. This from credible Brazilian folk. Braga herself is a proud Paulista and she couldn’t stop talking about it the last time we interviewed her.
The 13-episode drama series will air in Spanish (dubbed from Portuguese) every Friday at 10 p.m. EST from March 6–May 29, 2009 (it’ll also be available on HBO On Demand with English subtitles).
The plot revolves around a 26-year-old named Alice Carvalho Zanetti, who, after suddenly losing her father, leaves her quiet hometown of Palmas for the teeming metropolis of São Paulo. Alice soon discovers a new world in the seductive city, one that offers her a chance to start over with the help of new lovers and friends. It’s a story that is as much about the city as it is about her. Hmmm…the Brazilian Sex and the City? Can’t wait!
