It’s Gonna Be A Good, Good Night…

A few friends and I decided it had been way too long since we had gone dancing. And not just any dancing, but the kind where you sing along to the Spanish songs that defined your youth (Soda Stereo, Carlos Vives, Maná), take shots simply because someone in the group offers to buy them, and stay up until 5 a.m., only to wake up the next day feeling perfectly fine. Sadly, the older you get, the more those days seem like a distant memory. But because the fiesta in my spirit never dies (and I have a trusted friend named Advil), I decided to put on my dancing shoes. The big question remained: where could we go that we hadn’t been to hundreds of times? Let’s face it: the usual Latin spots in NYC like Son Cubano have grown quite tired.

Enter The Party Bus (aka La Chiva Rumbera for all my bilingual peeps). When I found out about this club-on-wheels, I knew it was something my friends and I would enjoy. Just our friends, dancing to our favorite songs, and cruising around the city that never sleeps. Best of all, it was reasonably priced, compared to any club in the city ($14 a mojito adds up quickly.)

It’s simple. The party bus, which can fit over 30 people, picks you and your friends up at a specified location in Manhattan, Queens, (or any of the New York City boroughs) and then takes you on a ride that lasts anywhere from 3-4 hours and can make a few different stops for food, bathroom breaks, and sightseeing/photo opps. At the end of the night, the bus will drop you and your group off wherever is convenient for you (you’ll have to plan out and agree on a route with the party host beforehand). You’re charged per head and can choose between an open bar option and bringing your own booze (obviously the latter costs less, but the pro of the open bar is that a pretty bartender makes sure your cup is filled all night long and who doesn’t want that?) Since you’ve paid per head, you don’t have to watch the meter; you can just concentrate on the rumba (all you Colombians know what I’m talking about). The bus, which by the way looks like a bright red school bus turned discoteca, comes equipped with full-on club lights and a booming sound system. If you’re feeling brave, you can even give the stripper pole a whirl (there are two poles, to be precise). This is the kind of thing that’s perfect for birthdays, bachelor parties, bachelorettes, holiday fiestas—or, if you’re like me, just cause you felt like it.

The Party Bus can also act as a private transportation service, which solves the whole drinking and driving dilemma. This makes sense if you’re looking to get a group together and go to, say, a Knicks game, Atlantic City or the Hamptons.

Hope you have as much fun as I did!
