For norteño music lovers based in NYC, this is your version of the biggest rave of the year, so dust off those glowsticks because, as they do every year, los Rolling Stones de Mexico, aka the legendary Tigres del Norte, are pulling an all-nighter at Marcy Playground in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 16. They don’t hit the stage until midnight, so it’s going to be a looong night—not that you party animals will mind. A crowd of 10,000 is expected!
The concert reminded me of this great song that appeared in Patricia Riggen’s film Under The Same Moon, about a little boy who leaves Mexico to look for his mom (Kate del Castillo) in L.A. One of my favorite scenes is when Carlitos hitches a ride from Los Tigres and they sing the song “Por Amor” to him: “A mi no me asusta el peligro/la vida sin riesgo no es vida.” Amen!
