Flashback Fridays: Acceso Total MANA

I caught U2 live in concert this morning on Good Morning America and even though Bono was a little off-key, he still is the man, forever and ever, amen. It reminded me of Maná, who have always been compared to U2—the former may not have its own iPod, but you gotta admit, Fher and Bono do share a lot in common, particularly their devotion to causes that matter.

With that in mind, I highly recommend the DVD, Acceso Total, which came out in 2004 and has live versions of all their classics—from cortavenas like “Rayando el Sol” to tequila shot-provoking anthems of the “Clavado en un Bar” variety—in addition to backstage interviews, rare fan footage (a lot of crazy Brazilian females fans, I tell ya), and highlights of their philanthropic work.

Two years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the kings of Latin rock in L.A. backstage at a concert. They absolutely ruled. Hands down one of the funnest interviews I’ve ever done. Here’s an excerpt from the interview, which ran in the February 2007 issue of Latina:

Latina: Speaking of tequila, you guys are from Jalisco, the birthplace of tequila. What’s the best one ever?

Fher: There’s one that doesn’t have a brand name. An 80-year-old man in Tepatitlán makes it when the moon is full, and it’s an aphrodisiac. When you have a sip of that, you get really caliente.

Gotta love a man who knows his te-kill-ya!
