I don’t agree with Venezuela’s politics (or Hugo Chavez’s antics, I should say) but I do tip my hat off to El Sistema, the government-subsidized music education program. The best thing to come out of there is 28-year-old Gustavo Dudamel, the newly minted Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Since I couldn’t physically be in L.A. for the Philharmonic’s Inaugural Concert earlier this month, I’m going to tune in to PBS tomorrow night, Wed. Oct 21, from 8-10 p.m. to catch it on TV. Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic: The Inaugural Concert is part of the network’s Great Performances series.
Don’t miss your chance to witness classical music’s rock star, who was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2009.
