Andy Garcia Walks "The Line"

Did you find yourself watching the totally unnecessary Godfather III solely because of Don Corleone’s (Al Pacino’s) hot nephew, Vincent (played by Andy Garcia)? I sure did, just like I watched Scarface mostly because of Steven Bauer’s delicious Manny Ribera. This month, Andy returns to acting after having spent some time behind the scenes producing and directing (and lending his voice to Beverly Hills Chihuahua).
In The Line, out now on DVD from Maya Entertainment, Garcia plays Javier Salazar, a terminally ill kingpin who hands over the reigns of his drug dynasty to the relatively green mafioso Pelon (Esai Morales). Pelon then decides it’s a good idea to do business with Afghani terrorists, and in so doing, opens “the line” (aka the US-Mexico border) to the Taliban. On his tail is the CIA, along with veteran assassin Mark Shields (Ray Liotta), who is haunted by a woman he once murdered. Along the way, Liotta’s character befriends a prostitute, played convincingly by Valerie Cruz. The pic, shot on location in Tijuana, was also executive produced by Liotta.
Sidenote: expect to see more of Garcia in 2010’s family comedy City Island.
