Keeping it Beachy at the Osklen Spring 2013 Show

Brazilian designer Oskar Metsavaht presented his line Osklen in its first ever runway show at New York Fashion Week. Along with being a fixture during São Paulo Fashion Week and having stores in major cities worldwide, the eco-friendly luxury brand deserved to show their garments on the New York catwalk to a full house.
Edward Norton with his fiancé Shauna Robertson, stylist June Ambrose and fellow Brazilian Rodrigo Santoro were all in attendance for the beach-inspired show aptly titled "Endless Summer." Designer Metsavaht described the line as "an imagined summer day that wanders between a road trip through Pacific Coast Highway 1 and a stroll on Ipanema's sidewalk...the end result is neither retro nor futuristic. It is modern."
The color palette was a gorgeous array of neutrals and beachy brights. Sheer fabrics were printed with images of palm trees, sunsets and Ipanema sidewalks and neoprene took an unconventional turn showing up embossed and and in slim silhouettes. The stand-out pieces were the capes with Rio landscape prints: one bright and eye-catching in colors of a gorgeous sunset and the other more subtle in black, white and gray tones. The whole line was what you would imagine a surfer girl would wear when needing to dress up after a whole day on the beach. Structured and simple color-blocked dresses, cropped tops paired with matching skirts and sheer tops off-setting metallic bottoms gave an effortless vibe that made us yearn for a beach vacation. The hair and beauty kept with the fresh-from-the-water theme with wet-looking waves pinned back at the sides and a natural, dewy face. Overall, not a bad first NYFW showing for a man who started his career as orthopedic doctor.
