Dear Dolores:
I honestly don’t know what to do with my fiancé. He just got back from Iraq. We had just gotten engaged, and then he was shipped out to the war. Now we are trying to give the relationship a second chance, but I just don’t know where to start or how to get close to him again.

Dear Dee Dee:
The ravages of war are not always visible to the naked eye. Many veterans return with limbs intact but wounded souls. Readjusting to civilian life and picking up relationships where they left off can be very hard and few soldiers seek the help they need. It’s that macho attitude toward mental-health treatment. If this sounds like your boyfriend, you must help him get the assistance he needs, and to which he is entitled. Check with your nearest Veterans Benefits & Services health center and inquire about programs. It's the essential first step toward healing your relationship.
—My best wishes to both of you, D
