Dear Dolores:

I've been with this guy for a few months. He's super hot and everything, but I'm just not 100% sure. How can you tell the difference between lust and love?

Dear Confused:

It can be tricky, but try this. If, in describing him to your friends, you dwell on how handsome or well endowed he is and never mention other undesirable (or desirable) personality traits, that's lust. If, after he makes you call out God's name, you wish he'd go away so you can get your nails down, that's lust. If it's him you're not sure about, watch him when the bill arrives after dinner at an expensive restaurant. If he doesn't let you see how much it is, and quietly pays it, that's love. If he looks at the bill, then looks at you and asks, "Your place or mine?" that's lust.

To simplify: It's hormones vs. emotions. Love comes from the heart and is all about him; lust comes from the groin and is all about you.

—Either way, enjoy it! D
