My Morning Concoction
By Angelique Serrano | 10/15/2009 - 17:14

On the days I must arrive to work looking super presentable, I make a magical mix to spread over my face: On the back of my hand I combine a nickel-size dollop each of Chanel Beaute Initiale Energizing Multi-Protection Fluid-Healthy Glow SPF 15 ($75, and Hissyfit Saving Face Anti-Aging Foundation ($49,

Feeling the Flower
By Angelique Serrano | 10/13/2009 - 13:13

Desperate to get away from Sunday night football, I wrestled the television
remote away from my man long enough to check out what vapid incarnation
of reality programming was airing on E!. Lo and behold, I found
Leave it to Lamas, a searing documentary-style look into the dramatic life and times of Argentinean
Shayne Lamas. Riveting. Actually, the only thing I found
watchable was the white chiffon-y flower headband Lamas wore during her
alcohol-fused mani-pedi trip to Dashing Diva. Perched on her perky
little bed of blonde hair, I found it absolutely adorable.

Mass Vibrations
By Angelique Serrano | 10/08/2009 - 13:49

I’m a big fan of vibrating mascaras. See, I love a good long lash; if it hits my eyebrow and inks up my eyelid, that’s all the better. Longer, longer, I say! And mechanical wands from brands like Lancome and Estee Lauder have been known to give me those hair extensions I crave.

It’s a Skin Condition, Not Goose Bumps!
By Angelique Serrano | 10/06/2009 - 17:38

I’ve had little white bumps on my thighs and elbows for a while now, years even. They don’t hurt, they don’t itch; they’re just there. Normally I pay them no mind, but for the past few weeks my skin’s been…bumpier. The white rounds have appeared more raised, and their numbers have risen. My upper legs feel almost sandpapery, and it makes me sad. I’ve exfoliated in the shower, I moisturize (occasionally…), and they never really go away.

Cult Classic: Thierry Mugler ‘Angel’
By Angelique Serrano | 10/01/2009 - 16:38

I’ve never personally worn this scent continuously, but I’ve noticed many celebrities—and one of my best friends—always speak fondly of it. Thierry Mugler is known for unique and evocative fragrances; the potent strength of the juices is only ever eclipsed by the spectacular otherworldliness of the bottles in which they are held. And the cult classic that is Angel ($75), Thierry Mugler’s first perfume, is an indisputable touchstone to many people.

My Mother’s Hands
By Angelique Serrano | 09/22/2009 - 12:24

I have my mother’s hands—to a certain extent. Her fingers are long and lean, her nails smooth and always grown. For my entire life, she has filed
and painted her nails and kept them colorful and presentable. My
fingers are long and sort of lean, and my fingernails do grow. But I am
clumsy. I have smashed my thumbs in countless drawers and have damaged
my nail beds beyond repair. My thumbnails are irreparably ridged, bumpy
and ugly. I’m too lazy to keep my hands manicured, and polish chips
within days. So my hands have never been quite as lovely as my

Live from Fashion Week: Wild, Wild West
By Angelique Serrano | 09/18/2009 - 09:07

Designers Juan Carlos Obando and Ralph Lauren took inspiration in western United States for the clothing they created and presented on their spring runways—but with decidedly different twists. I adored Obando’s tough John Ford-inspired women; these are ladies who are strong enough to rope a horse, but soft and feminine to their core.

Live from Fashion Week: Just-Bitten Sex Kittens
By Angelique Serrano | 09/15/2009 - 14:38

Lots of lovely little models have been strutting down runways during NYC Fashion Week with their pretty red lips in a pinch. Are they hungry? Are they just fierce? Or are they doing their best impressions of sultry, ready-to-bite vampires? Backstage at the spring Brian Reyes show, the one and only makeup artist extraordinaire Bobbi Brown told me she was creating a “vampire” lip with a juicy red stain color against an otherwise naked face.
