Pretty for Takeoff

Recently I found myself running across the John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York. I was running late for an international flight. It wasn’t my fault this time! Several engine checks and delays resulted in my booking it to yet another gate. I had a blister on my heel, my bangs were greasy and my nails were gross and unpolished. Did I mention this trip was for business? In 10 hours I would be in the company of shiny, pretty, put-together beauty editors for a major beauty event and I could not be looking—or feeling—less beautiful. So as I ran by the thirtieth Hudson News stand I suddenly screeched to a halt; a new freestanding space had caught my eye: 10 Minute Manicure. It was a room big enough for four nail polishing stations and a cash register. The space had one purpose: To get your nails pretty and painted in 10 minutes or less, no frills, no fuss. Holy smokes if this wasn’t my dream come true. No pampering, no lotion layering, just cuticle clean-up and nail painting. Hurrah! I selected a black-red shade and made it to my gate with four whole minutes to spare. And I felt a million times better; my nails looked fab and I found out there are lots of locations in major airports around the country. How beautiful is that?
