Is Marilyn Monroe Mexican?

I’m obsessed with Marilyn Monroe. She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson (later baptized as Norma Jeane Baker) to her mother Gladys Pearl Monroe in Los Angeles, 1926. Now, did you know that her mother, Miss Gladys, was born in Porfirio Diaz, Mexico, which is known today as Piedras Negras, Mexico? The parents of Gladys Monroe had lived there for years while they worked.
Later, in what would become the star’s last official residence in Brentwood, California, Marilyn used Mexican art and accessories to decorate, which she bought from the country during several trips she made during the last years of her life. Perhaps she felt connected to the culture? What do you all think? Do you consider Marilyn Monroe Latina? Or is it just too much of a stretch for you?

Gladys' parents were Angloamericans so I don't know if we can say "Latina" just because her mom was born in Mexico. It was easy for Marilyn to pass herself as a white because she was white lol.Yes she could have felt connected to the Mexican culture it was a part of her family's story but I don't think that they considered theirself as "Latinos". Rita Hayworth born Magarita Carmen Cansino was half Spaniard (father) half Irish (mother). Hayworth was her mother's name. I don't consider Spaniard as Latino but as Latin European.

Well, Rita Hayworth was latina and she changed her name (to Rita Hayworth) and dyed her hair and plucked her hairline to appear more anglo so she could get a break in Hollywood. Let's face it, Hollywood was not kind to latinas in those days.

It could be true, especially since her mother was born in Mexico. Back in Marylin Monroe's time I'm sure there were very few if any Latino or Latina Actors and Actresses. She could have died her hair blonde to pass herself off as white in order to be accepted in a white dominated hollywood.

This could be true, I mean we all know in those times people would not really accept you being anything other than Caucasian. Like the famous baseballl player for the Red Sox Ted Williams said before his death in 2002, that his mother was Mexican but he knew if he said that he would not be as popular. That would be awesome if she was =)
