It’s not every day I get to talk to a celebrity, let alone one as gorgeous as Dania Ramirez. And I’m not just talking about her outward beauty; this bronze-skinned actress is a beautiful vibrant soul, just as pretty on the inside as she is out. On a day packed with interviews regarding her latest appointment as the newest face of Cover Girl cosmetics, Dania took the time to chat with us about how thrilled she is to now play with makeup for a living.

“I come from a family full of women,” Dania, 29, says. “I’m one of three girls, my mom is one of 10 girls, so I learned about makeup at a really early age! I learned how important it was to embrace your femininity and celebrate it.” As far as being prepared for the role of spokesperson—as which she joins the likes of one of her idols, Queen Latifah, and movie star Drew Barrymore—she’s been practicing since she was five years old: “I used to watch [the Cover Girl] commercials when I was really young and reenact them,” she says. “I even reenacted the Spanish commercials, before I spoke English!”

Born in the Dominican Republic, making the transition into famed television starlet wasn’t easy. “I’m not from this country; I have struggled and worked really hard to get everything I have,” she says. And in the end, to Dania what this gig is really about is “understanding that beauty comes from anywhere and everywhere. Growing up I didn’t have a lot of people I could identify with, [or have as] good role models. So being a Cover Girl is about that—being a role model to women and inspiring young women to feel like they can do anything through hard work.” How’s that for a beautiful life?
