As a presenter at the Golden Globe Awards, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara was stunning in a Carolina Herrera gown and Chopard diamonds with her long hair gathered back and half up because of the soggy weather. “I didn’t want to wear my hair up, but it started raining and it’s better to wear it up and look fixed the whole night than have it look good for ten minutes,” she explained the following morning on the Modern Family set, where she talked about the thrill of attending her first Golden Globes and meeting A-Listers like Sophia Loren.
Vergara didn’t have much time to prepare in advance for the big event. "The whole week I was feeling like I should have been doing something special, but I was working,” she explains. “I did my nails on Saturday but I always do my nails on Saturday." Her hair and makeup artists appeared at her home on Sunday morning to strategize about what would complement the crimson-accented blue-gray strapless gown.
“The dress was pretty serious because of the color, so I wanted modern and very clean makeup. We tried to plan natural earth tones, nude lipstick,” noted the Colombian beauty, who likes to keep things simple: “Less is better the older you get,” she advised.
Her hair, though thick and luxurious, takes a beating on set from styling products and heated tools, so she uses leave-in conditioners and oils, sometimes left in overnight, to replenish moisture. Her favorite product line? “Frederic Fekkai has a lot of really good things.”
She's diligent about cleansing and moisturizing and credits her Latina heritage for her good skin, but admitted, “Sometimes I get a little pimple because of so much makeup all day long when I’m working.” To counter breakouts, she uses cleansing products with salicylic acid and swears by the pricey but rich Crème de la Mer cream. She also visits the dermatologist once a month and often tries products from doctors's lines. “I like to change it up.”
As for more extreme forms of beauty maintenance, Vegara is not about to go under the knife any time soon (not that she needs it!). “I don’t think anyone can look good after a huge plastic surgery, but I want to keep up,” she confided, not ruling out Botox or fillers like Restylane. “When I need it I’m definitely going to go for it.”
