Does This Work? Leg Bronzers

A few weeks ago, when the temp suddenly shot to 90+ degrees, our Celebrity Bookings Director Jazmin Perez realized she officially had to take her “Twilight pale” legs out of hiding. Which is why she jumped at the chance to test these leg bronzers:

What They Are: Self-tanners, shimmery lotions, and leg makeup

The Claim: All these formulas say they’ll give legs a beautiful bronzing effect

My Results:
The first item I tried was the super popular Scott Barnes Body Bling ($42, dermstore.com)—a favorite of Jennifer Lopez. I used the Platinum shade on one leg and quickly realized it might be a little too much for daytime, so I switched to the Original formula. It was (slightly) less bling-y. My legs felt a little dry after about 5 minutes so I rubbed in a little bit of body lotion. Pretty!

Next up: Sally Hansen Salon Airbrush Legs, $13.99, walgreens.com. I can’t stop raving about this to all my friends. Although it didn’t give me much color (then again I used “light glow”), my legs really had the airbrush look. They looked so smooth and the skin tone was completely even. I loved it so much that I decided to use it the next day as a primer for the next item on the list.

Yves Rocher Autobronzant Self-Tanner Shimmer Cream Golden Legs, $8.50, yvesrocherusa.com. This was my absolute favorite! My morning routine is now one coat of the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs and then a layer of this tinted self-tanner. It develops in 15 minutes and smells surprisingly great!

Unfortunately, Neutrogena Micro Mist Airbrush Sunless Tan ($10, drugstore.com) was a disaster, and I still have a drip stain on my right leg to prove why. I followed the directions on the can, which say, “spray directly on to skin, no rubbing necessary.” But the results were a hot mess. Not only did my legs look orange, there were streaks! If you try it, definitely smooth the spray onto your legs evenly, and wash your palms thoroughly so they don’t stain.

My last leg product: South Seas Beach Bling Shimmer Lotion, which was a staple on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean. This formula definitely lives up to its name; in fact, it’s so blingy it’s almost blinding! I’ll save for a night out.
