Does This Really Work: No Foundation Foundation

I’m not one to wear full on makeup on a daily basis, but I do use a little bit of tinted moisturizer sometimes for a touch of even color. I wanted to try Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation ($50, sephora.com) because it claims to be nothing like a traditional heavy foundation. I’m also a fan of the brand’s founder, celebrity dermatologist Dr. Perricone, because he offers—and has the patent on—Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) supplements, which are rich in antioxidants that help clear my skin.

This No Foundation formula, which is infused with ALA, feels light as a feather and slathers on skin smoothly—like a tinted moisturizer would. I think it smells a little medicinal at first, but that smell doesn’t last long. It also contains tiny mica particles that reflect light, making lines look less prominent. My face felt hydrated all day and since it contains Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, it also protects skin from the sun.

Alas, I haven’t told you the best part about this. It only comes in one shade, but this one shade actually works on multiple skin tones! I’m not kidding. Several women with different skin tones tried it in our office and it blended well on everyone! It’s a little pricey at $50, but I find that it goes a long way since you only need a little bit. You also can’t beat the twofold benefits of smooth even coverage with do-good ingredients.
