Problem: UNEVEN SKIN TONE, DARK SPOTS & DISCOLORATION
Remedy: The first step to address uneven skin is proper skincare. Sounds obvious; but are you making sure you're keeping your skin well-hydrated daily and gently exfoliating once a week? Dry skin often appears as dull patches and draws attention to areas of unevenness. And what about sunscreen? Are you using it every single day, year round, no excuses? It doesn't matter how light or dark you are or whether or not you burn, it is imperative if you want to protect and preserve your skin. Sun damage often creates manchas and hyper pigmentation. So stock up on moisturizers and makeup with SPF. You should also invest in a topical Vitamin C powder to mix into skincare to help brighten skin.

Problem: SUNBURNED SKIN
Remedy: There are few things more uncomfortable than a bad burn. (And yes, even those of us with brown complexions can get burned, too.) To cool, calm and heal a sunburn, nothing works better than aloe, whether leaves from the plant itself or sold as a gel from a drugstore. Apply aloe directly to burned areas. Then, to address damaged skin below the surface, there are several deep-penetrating, repairative serums you can use. These products are worth their weight in gold, so spend a little extra if necessary. They will keep you from costly laser treatments down the road. Lastly, swap out your daily body moisturizer for a thicker, more hydrating lotion (or even cream) to minimize peeling.

Problem: FINE LINES & WRINKLES
Remedy: Read this before considering the needle or the knife!! Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is all about finding the right lotions and potions. You want moisturizers, eye creams and line-filling serums with Peptides, which stimulate collagen production, or Retinol, which resurfaces skin texture resulting in supple, smooth skin. The best products will help plump fine lines and wrinkles upon application while treating over time for visible results. Look also for anti-aging makeup with short-term and long-term benefits like lifting, firming, smoothing, contouring, rejuvenating and correcting.

Problem: OILY SKIN
Remedy: The first step in dealing with oily skin is acceptance, if not appreciation. That shine that you constantly try to pat down will keep you from aging as rapidly as your perfectly-matte girlfriends (who, by the way, are always trying to create the dewy look!). But if your skin is looking less luminous and more…reflective, fear not! There are easy solutions.
Keep skin clean by investing in a good cleanser and using it gently so as not to irritate skin (over-scrubbing is not the answer!). Next use skincare products formulated for oily/combination skin. After prepping skin, always, always, always apply a mattifying primer before makeup to create a layer between skincare and cosmetics. The primer will keep oils from secreting and keep makeup looking fresher and lasting longer. As a final touch, set makeup with a powder, dusting a little extra on forehead, nose and chin. For quick touchups throuhout the day, carry blotting tissues in your purse.

Remedy: The best at-home remedy for acne is honestly to chill out and get some rest. Breakouts are often triggered by stress and hormones. But since that’s not always possible for a chica-on-the-go, the next best thing is a daily customized acne-fighting regimen. These systems are created to give you a complete skin treatment, and each has a series of steps to be followed in order. Most include an acne-reducing cleanser, toner and treatment along with moisturizers and masks. It's best to test any new skincare system on a small spot on your arm first before using on your face, just to be sure there's no irritation. Once you find one that works for you, stick to it!
