M.A.C Cosmetics Flooded With Racist Comments After Posting An Image Of A Model's Lips

Just as critics were praising fashion week for upping it’s diversity on the runway — thanks Zac Posen! — racism reared its ugly head as online trolls pelted M.A.C Cosmetics with hateful comments after the makeup brand posted a close-up Instagram photo of a black model with full lips.

The snap featured a model from the Ohne Titel show wearing a deep purple lip.

Some haters compared the model’s full lips to Jay-Z, while other’s posted hurtful, disparaging, and mocking comments in English and Spanish. Yuck.

The good news is the outpouring of support on social was swift and huge with praise for the natural look.  

Many commenters brought up the beauty double standard when it comes to women of color, citing celebs like Kylie Jenner and Angelina Jolie, who are revered for their big lips.

In reponse to the controversy M.A.C. released a short but powerful statement: "M·A·C stands for and respects All Ages, All Races, All Sexes. We do not tolerate any abusive comments in our community.”

The beauty giant is also set to release a Selena Quintanilla-inspired line at the end of this year.
