Nuestra Belleza Mexico Cynthia de la Vega Fires Back At Pageant Officials

Cynthia de la Vega, who won second place in last year’s Nuestra Belleza Mexico contest, has been stripped of the opportunity to run for the upcoming Miss World pageant.
In a recent interview with CNN Mexico, the brunette de la Vega said she felt disappointed over the stripping of her crown a few months before the Miss World pageant. “If there was ever a problem with my weight or they weren’t happy with my image…I asked for support many times but was denied,” she said. De la Vega claimed that she was told last month that she didn’t meet the physical requirements of the Nuestra Belleza Mexico pageant−but was never previously told about such mandates. Gabriela Palacio was named de la Vega’s substitute and will represent Mexico in November’s Miss World competition.
In a press conference, Lupita Jones, the national director of Nuestra Belleza Mexico, denied that weight had anything to do with stripping de la Vega of her title, saying, “It was lack of dedication and discipline.”
“I think God has given me the qualities, the height, the profile, the talent, and the characteristics to represent this country in this competition,” de la Vega said. “I’m very disappointed to learn that three-and-a-half months before my competition, this dream and opportunity has been taken away.”
