Nude Beauty 101

1. Nude Beauty: Step 1

Step 1: Start with a very clean surface and moisturize properly using products like Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Milk ($33.95,  amazon.com), Dermalogica Skin Care Essentials Kit ($25.00-$58.15, amazon.com) or Jurlique Moisture Replenishing Day Cream (from $40, jurlique.com).

2. Nude Beauty: Step 2

Step 2: Select the right foundation for your skin tone. "Latinas come in a wide range of complexions," says De Herrera, "that's why I'm a big fan of the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation $58, georgioarmani-beautyusa.com). It has more values of beige rather than yellow or pink." Chocolate or caramel toned women should check out No. 9-No. 11. Olive tones should consider No. 7,8, and 9, while fair-skinned women should see if No. 4 and 5 will work for them.

3. Nude Beauty: Step 3

Step 3: Then apply concealer over your foundation. "I always take Dermacolor concealer on the set with me because it can last for up to 14 hours, which is great for an actor or a regular woman," says De Herrera ($27.90, alconeco.com). She also likes concealers from Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown.

4. Nude Beauty: Step 4

Step 4: Now it's time for loose, colorless powder. "I can't emphasize enough how important it is to make downward strokes with a large full powder brush," says De Herrera, "that's key to making sure it stays on longer--that's a make-up artist trick." She lives for Jurlique Lavender Finishing Powder ($36, amazon.com): "It has the finest dust, and it smells like lavender and roses because that's what it's made out of."

5. Nude Beauty: Step 5

Step 5: "I prefer cream blushes," says De Herrera, "because it gives a natural glow to the skin with a healthy sheen. And it's undetectable." Whether your complexion is olive, caramel, or chocolate, you can use Calypso Coral Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks by Bobbi Brown ($22, bobbibrowncosmetics.com). "It's a great versatile blush and I use it on everybody," she says.

6. Nude Beauty: Step 6

Step 6: When you are creating a neutral eye, De Herrera states her mantra: "Definition not color." She says Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Cordura is very versatile for a range of skin tones ($32, sephora.com). Using a dry, angled brush, work to line and shape the eye by rimming the edge of the eye with the darker shade. Then put the lighter shad on the brow bone. Finish up with one coat of mascara, like Benefit BADGal Lash ($19, sephora.com). "Heavy lining is discouraged with a natural eye," advises De Herrera.

7. Nude Beauty: Step 7

Step 7: When it comes to creating a natural lip, you want to use a natural toned lip liner and fill in the outer rim of your lip (Mac Dervish for everyone; Mac Chestnut for chocolate tones; Mac Cork for caramel tones; Mac Spice for fair complexions, all pencils $13, maccosmetics.com). Blend the pencil towards the center. Apply either a clear gloss or one with pink/brown tones. De Herrera recommends Nars Hot Lip Gloss in Butterfield 8 for everyone ($24, drugstore.com).
