5 Steps To Melt-Proof Summer Makeup

There is nothing worse than stepping out on a hot day, and having your makeup melt off your face. Lucky for us, celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal is here to help! In addition to working with some of the hottest faces in Hollywood, including Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, and Rihanna, Mally has her own cosmetic line called “Mally Beauty.” Roncal is known for making the faces of her celebrity clients last all day and all night – no matter what the temperature may be. Here are Mally’s five steps to melt-proof summer makeup!

1. Melt-Proof Summer Makeup: Step 1

Step 1

“To prep skin, start by using a primer. This will create a barrier between your skin and your makeup,” Roncal says. “Look for one with SPF built in, that way you’re not smothering your skin with a ton of products.”

2. Melt-Proof Summer Makeup: Step 2

Step 2

“Next, use a concealer to cover any blemishes and [use] underneath the eyes.” says Roncal. “Even everything out with a powder foundation; this is also going to help soak up any excess oil on the skin.”

For a concealer try: Maybeline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer, $8, ulta.com

For a powder foundation try: Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Loose Powder Foundation, $12, Neutrogena.com

3. Melt-Proof Summer Makeup: Step 3

Step 3

“Lighten up with stains! Apply on the cheeks and lips for a lightweight pop of color,” Roncal suggests. “Stains won’t get cakey like powder formulas, or melt like many creams can.”

4. Melt-Proof Summer Makeup: Step 4

Step 4

“To keep eyeliner from running, I recommend that you dust the eye area with a powder foundation, or you can apply a shadow base to help soak up any excess oil around the eye area,” Roncal says.

5. Melt-Proof Summer Makeup: Step 5

Step 5

“I know that women automatically think that they need a “translucent powder” to set their makeup. I say no way because “translucent” powder isn’t translucent – it will make you look cakey and white!” explains Roncal. “Instead, I created the world’s first ever clear powder, called Face Defender, that leave skin with a satiny-matte finish, all while minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores!”
