Evita Peron has been played by some of the top leading ladies in show biz, and rightfully so: the lady had style. The old Hollywood glam she embodied decades ago is now brought to life each night by Elena Roger, the Argentinean actress who plays the lead role on Broadway. Aside from her killer vocals, we were also dying over her perfectly red lip color. We know it can be an intimidating beauty look to pull off, so we talked to Tiffany Johnston, a senior artist at MAC, the company behind the bold lip shades used at the show. Here are her tips for recreating the look at home.
Start by exfoliating lips: A smooth lip is a better home for a dark color like red. Plus, a clean surface helps the shade last longer.
Apply foundation on lips first: This will stop your natural lip color from interfering with your lipstick and it provides a good base for the look. Use a foundation brush for perfect application.
Add dimension with a lip pencil: Not only does this add more depth to your lips, but shading in lips with a liner also helps the lipstick last longer. Try: MAC Lip Pencil in Cherry.
Use a lip brush to apply lipstick: Using a brush lets you put the color exactly where you want it while also blending the lipstick and liner together for harmonious texture. (Pro tip: MAC’s Shader Brush—it’s actually for eye shadow—works perfectly.) The color used on Elena Rogers at Evita is MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo, a true red with a matte finish.
