How-To: Get Eva’s Modern Look

Eva Mendes
is a regular on the charity benefit circuit, and yet night after night she pulls off a consistently stunning look: polished, natural, and effortlessly elegant. Is she born with it? Yes. But does she also get a lot of help from the right blush, some concealer, and judiciously applied eyeshadow? Definitely.

We consulted with Becca’s National Makeup Artist, Joanne Hwang, to dissect the secret behind Eva’s fabulous face. Here's her step-by-step tutorial:

Start by applying a primer all over the face to ensure that the foundation goes on smoother and wears longer. Try Photo Finish Foundation Primer by Smashbox ($36,

Follow with your complexion shade. (Always match your color in natural daylight!) Full coverage "masks" are a no-no. Try a tinted moisturizer instead, like BECCA's Luminous Skin Color ($42,

Refine the complexion using a concealer with a brush (synthetic hairs) for a more even application than with a wand or fingertips. For under the eyes, use a shade lighter than the rest of the face. We like Laura Mercier's Undercover Concealer ($22,

Set with transluscent powder for a flawless finish. BECCA's Fine Loose Finishing Powder ($39, is super fine, so it is undetectable! Option: keep cheeks dewy and just dust powder on your T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin).

Apply a powder bronzer to your forehead, nose, cheekbones, and chin. Start with a light application first, you can always add another layer if you want more color. Laguna and Casino Bronzing Powders by NARS ($29, have just the right amount of shimmer.

Define the brows with a brow powder and a stiff, angled brush. BECCA's Brow Powder in Medium ($22, is the perfect shade for brunettes.

Prep the eyelid with an eyeshadow base to prevent shadows from creasing. It also makes blending easier. Try MAC Paint in Base Light ($16.50,

Sweep a highlighting eyeshadow just under the eyebrow using a flat-edged brush. Try LORAC eye shadow in Enlighten ($17,

Dust a neutral, taupe shade in the crease area using a back and forth motion. Try BECCA's Eye Colour in Tweed ($24,

Smudge a deeper color from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye, concentrating the color on the outer corner. Bring the same color underneath the eye, following the lash line. CoverGirl eye shadow in Sapphire Sparkle ($2.99, available at drugstores) is sexy for evening.

Create a smooth line along the top eyelid, as close to the lashline as possible. Subtly flick the liner up at the outer corner of the eye. Bobbi Brown's Long -Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink ($19, is water-resistant.

Curl lashes and apply a lengthening mascara to both top and bottom lashes, to make eyes appear larger. Try a couple coats of Define-A-Lash Lengthening Mascara by Maybelline ($4.79, available at drugstores).

Blend a bit of creme blush by placing three dots starting on the apples of your cheeks, moving toward your hairline. The blush will look creamier and will wear longer. We like Scott Barnes Creme Color in Bloom ($24,

Intensify the color by layering a shimmery, powder blush, like Torrid by NARS ($25,, using circular strokes, moving up towards the hairline.

Accent and highlight the cheekbones by placing Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal by BECCA ($41,

Keep lips soft and natural by using Dior's Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect in Beige Velvet 127 ($24.50, for the perfect nude pout!

Voila! A natural seductress is born.
