Everyone in the fashion and entertainment industry was out in full force last night to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's big gala in honor of Alexander McQueen. Salma Hayek, a huge McQueen fan, co-chaired the special event alongside her hubby while everyone from Eva Mendes to Zoe Saldana showed up in their fabulous finest!
All of our stars shined brightly last night, thanks in large part to their amazing beauty teams. We got the inside scoop on the tools and tricks of the trade these specialists used to get the ladies looking so glam and now, we're passing them on to you!
Eva Mendes’s Gorgeous Glow
For Eva’s flawless complexion, Nars makeup artist Julie Harris, layered Nars Orgasm Blush, Nars Laguna The Multiple, $39, and Nars Illuminator in Copacobana, $29, narscosmetics.com.
Nicole Richie’s Screen Siren Lips
Nars makeup artist Eric Polito was on hand to give Nicole a stunning red-carpet look. For that gorgeously rich scarlet mouth, he used Nars Terre de Feu Pure Matte Lipstick, $25, narscosmetics.com. Then, to complement her lips, he applied a a green eye shadow and black eyeliner (try Nars Fuji Eyeshadow, $23, and Nars Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil, $21, narscosmetics.com).
Gisele Bundchen’s Old Hollywood Hair
To create Gisele’s sleek waves, John Frieda Consultant Harry Josh started by blow drying her hair smooth, then curling each piece. After setting each curl, Josh brushed through the hair to soften it. So that she’d stay camera-ready all night, flyaways stayed slicked down thanks to John Frieda Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer ($9, ulta.com), a mascara-like wand that brushes through hair to tame wispy strands.
Penelope Cruz’s Sultry Eyes
Makeup artist Matthew Van Leeuwen describes Penelope’s look as “all eyes.” To play up her gaze, Matthew applied Lancome Color Design Eye Brightening All-In-One 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Coral Crush, $48, then added Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner in Prune, $25.50, and Definicils Mascara in Noir, $25, all on lancome-usa.com.
Zoe Saldana’s Loose Waves
Celeb stylist Mara Roszak wanted the hair to “feel fresh” so it would go with Zoe’s bright, sunny dress. Mara prepped hair with a drop of Kerastase Serum Oleo-Relax and Kerastase Ciment Thermique. After parting hair in the center, she blow-dried with a medium-size round brush. Next, with a 1-inch curling iron, she curled each section, alternating directions and leaving the ends out to create a more “natural, slept-in feel.” To finish, she teased the crown and ran her fingers through the curls to break them up.
