Backstage Beauty at Fashion Week: Oscar de la Renta

No one does gorgeous, dressed-up, ball-ready fashion better than Oscar de la Renta.

And, once again, his go-to hair and makeup pros (Orlando Pita and Gucci Westman) delivered glamorous, dramatic, beautiful looks to complement his vision for Fashion Week.

The hair was spritzed with T3 Orlando Pita Plump Styling Set (, blown-out smooth, and then teased (and teased…and teased) with a comb. Next, a ribbon was placed near the ends, and then tucked underneath the hair to create a faux bob. “We added jewel-encrusted headbands or little tiaras to each model to go with the vision of a girl having a dress-up moment,” Pita said.

A Day With Oscar de la Renta

But the real news was on the nails!

On the morning of the show Mr. de la Renta decided to offer a sneak peek to a little project he’s been working on: his own nail lacquer collection, called Essential Luxuries.

Three of his six shades showed up on models’ hands and toes. The first, Essential Red Carnation (an ode to his love of the flower), is a classic opaque crimson. The second, Essential Aubergine, is a gorgeously rich purple. And the third—our personal favorite—Essential Larimar, is a light blue that reflects the Larimar gemstone, which is only found in Mr. de la Renta’s native country, the Dominican Republic.

Each polish will be $23, and you have plenty of time to save up; the launch is scheduled for October 2012.
