Backstage Beauty at Fashion Week: Narciso Rodriguez

We’ve come to know what to expect of Narciso Rodriguez’s beauty philosophy. He likes everything to look minimal and modern (think: nude nails, no makeup-makeup, and straight, sleek hair).

So imagine our shock when we ventured into the backstage mayhem during New York Fashion Week and watched hair stylist Eugene Soleiman spray-painting technicolor shades on all the models. “At first, when I told Narciso that I wanted to spray paint the girls’ hair, he didn’t want to do it. He said it had already been done. But I managed to convince him,” Soleiman said. “The colors play off the colors in the clothes.”

After Soleiman slicked the hair into what he called both an “aerodynamic French twist” and a “space-age bouffant” he sprayed the hair with white paint, then layered on  a bright color, like turquoise, orange, or purple.

The effect was certainly eye-catching—and completely unexpected!
