Pretty makeup for pretty clothes—that was the goal at Carolina Herrera’s fall show. MAC makeup artist Diane Kendal focused on the lips, lightly patting MAC lipstick in Prince Noir—a deep berry color—onto the mouth, then dabbing it off with a tissue to create a sheer stain. She used Angel Blush to give cheeks a subtle flush, then drew a thin, extended line of black crème eyeliner along the upper lashes only. The jewel tone manicure (created with two coats of CND’s Dark Ruby) has a super shiny finish to contrast with the suede, velvet, and fur in the collection. Carmen Marc Valvo
Ted Gibson hairstylist Devin Toth described this pretty style as young, fresh, and ballerina-inspired. After he brushed the hair, he blew it out section by section (watch the video on the next page to see how he twists the hair as it’s blown out, which will give you lots of sexy bounce!). Then he pulled back the top half of the hair (from temple to temple), tightly twisted it five times, and used bobby pins to hold it in place.
Narciso is known for nude nails, natural makeup, and sleek, straight hair. Not anymore. Manicurist Deborah Lippmann polished nails a “tough” gray color, Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page lined lids with a soft violet shade (called Purple Dawn) and a greenish-black (called Caviar) and Wella Professionals Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman tied hair into rough knots. He described his latest look for the Cuban’s collection as “quite raw, even dirty,” and said Narciso “loves the new look, but he’s a bit scared, too. Which is a good thing!” After Eugene spritzed dry roots with Wella Ocean Spritz and blasted them with a blow dryer, he yanked hair back into a ponytail, twisted the tail, and pulled it into a knot. Watch him in action on the next slide.
Oscar de la Renta
Oscar’s models were dressed to explore “the Siberian tundra,” so Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman gave them windblown skin by blending Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Fuchsia all over the cheeks (watch her technique in the video on the next page!). She also darkened brows and added a touch of color on the lips; the model’s with darker complexions wore Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry, while those with lighter skin tones had on Bordeaux in the Snow (which launches in the fall).
