By Sandra Mariscal | 09/02/2009 - 14:45

Don’t let frizzy strands get you down. Sam Villa, Education Artistic Director for Redken, offers a good tip to control fly-aways on naturally curly hair. How Hot is Too Hot?
By Angelique Serrano | 09/02/2009 - 12:34

Usually when you get a new styling tool for your hair, like a curling iron or hair dryer, you want to crank it up to the highest, hottest setting—because if it’s not set on high, it’s not going to work, right? Wrong! Newer heat tools, like flat irons, offer adjustable settings, making it possible for users to turn up the heat to 450 degrees.

What's Up with the First Lady's Hair?
By Angelique Serrano | 08/28/2009 - 17:00

Though we at Latina strive to demonstrate in every issue, in every bit of beauty coverage we do, that all hair textures are beautiful in their natural state, periodically a story will surface to point out that we as a collective American community have a long way to go in terms of understanding and accepting this truth. Way back eighties flashback coming at you: Aqua Net, the retro aerosole spray that made your tunnel-bangs stand up straight throughout gym class is making a quiet comeback among savy makeup artist circles. It's being misted onto faces to set finished makeup and keep it from running in extreme heat or sweat-inducing activity. Models and brides-to-be will most likely be putting this tip to the test, whille the rest of us fight the urge to pop open a can of Tab and contemplate who shot Bobby on Dallas.

Curly Qs: Steal of the Month
By Sandra Mariscal | 08/19/2009 - 16:00

Every now and then I like to add a little bit of gel to my strands to control my curls right before I go out—especially during the hot and humid summer months. I’m not a fan of those heavy, gloppy kinds of gels because they make my hair look droopy. Spray gels can also be intimidating. The ones I’ve tried, I’ve had to spray it on my hand first and then distribute throughout my hair; otherwise, the gel usually shoots out straight in one direction and clumps.
