From backstage at the Carolina Herrera Fall 2010 fashion show – which was phenomenally full of furs, puffed sleeves and voluminous frocks – hairstylist to the stars Orlando Pita proclaimed he was over the overdone ‘dos that usually accompany most fancy dresses. “I would like to see people move forward,” he said.

I got engaged recently. Actually, I got engaged in August, but it still feels pretty recent. But the reality is, the wedding date is set for Sept. 3 and I’ve got to get my butt in gear. There are flowers to pick, cakes to taste, shoes to buy and, of course, hair and makeup to consider. I know a lot of girls start growing their hair out for their wedding…but I’m not sure why. Is it just a thing we do, almost involuntarily, like twirling our hair when flirting?
