New ‘Do Every Day: Zoe Saldana’s Bun

Surely we’ve all pulled our hair back on a hot day with no mirror just to get it up and out of the way. And that’s what it seems like Zoe Saldana could have done here—except when Zoe does it, the style is super chic.

So what’s the secret to making your bun look stylish, not messy? A hidden hair pin. Think about it, if you just casually pull your hair up mid-day, you probably hold it in place with whatever elastic band (or banana clip…or scrunchie) you can find. But a pretty bun like Zoe’s is pinned up without a distracting hair tie or clip, making it look so much more put together.

Here’s how to do it:

-Keeping your natural part, pull your hair straight back with your hands and gather it in a ponytail (don’t worry about any bumps; they help make the style look effortless!).

-Twist the tail around the base of your ponytail.

-Now secure with bobby pins—or even better than that—screw in a Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin, $6.29, I’ve been using this all summer, and, I swear, this one little corkscrew truly holds my long, thick hair up throughout the day and is completely hidden inside the bun!
